The Adobe Flash plugin for Android was not officially supported beyond version 4.1 of the Google operating system, but several developers had managed to activate it for some time without problems. This, along with the support still provided by some browsers, made many users continue to use it without any problems.
Firefox 56 for Android will say goodbye to Flash
The next big update of Firefox, under the version number 56, will no longer officially support the plugin on Android. We already know that Mozilla has aligned with Adobe in its plans to definitely abandon Flash on all platforms before the year 2020. Stopping support in Firefox is just one more step in these plans. Firefox 56, which is currently in beta and will reach the final version next month, will be the first to require Android 4.1 or higher. Therefore, it makes enough sense that it does not support Flash, as it does not count this with official support in these versions of Android. As the new Firefox will not work on Android versions without Flash support, it makes little sense to keep giving it support. Therefore, the version that we have currently installed in our Android devices will be the last to be able to run the Flash plugin, if it has activated in one way or another. After many comings and goings, Adobe confirmed that Flash will officially die in 2020. Technologies such as HTML5, WebGL, and WebAssembly have improved a lot in recent times and are ready to take the witness. In fact, they have already done so in some of the most popular websites of the moment. Adobe has confirmed that it works with companies like Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla so that this “death” is carried out in a coordinated way. There will be no more updates for Flash starting in 2020. So, what do you think about this? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below.
